Why’s Everyone Talking About Red Light Therapy?
We’ve all heard the buzz buzz buzz of light therapy but what is it exactly? And what does it really have to offer me and my skin? Let’s start from the top, shall we?
What is low level light therapy?
Let’s start here, it’s not just red light that is being hyped, blue light is also coming to the party. here’s how it works: the skin is exposed to LED’s (light emitting diodes) for therapeutic benefits. Simple right? Think of it as giving your skin, body and hair a natural energy boost. Our cells absorb the red and near-infrared light resulting in proven health benefits.
WHAT HEALTH BENEFITS CAN I EXPECT FROM RED LIGHT THERAPY?
Low level light therapy has been proven to assist in therapeutic benefits for skin, pain and hair. With its ability to reach deeper layers of the skin; red light is best for various skin treatments. You can expect to see improved skin texture, a production of collagen and elastin and a reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and inflammation. Red light therapy can also aid in wound healing.
WHAT HEALTH BENEFITS CAN I EXPECT FROM BLUE LIGHT THERAPY?
Blue light is known for its effectiveness in treating acne. Targeting the bacteria on the skin's superficial layers the blue light combats the bacteria contributing to breakouts.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RED LIGHT AND INFRARED LIGHT?
Red light is within the visible spectrum of light and can reach deep into the layers of skin, including the dermis, reaching approximately 5-10 mms below the skin surface. Near-infrared light is not visible to the naked eye and can penetrate more deeply into the skin and tissues than red light, reaching even beyond the dermis into the subcutaneous tissue. This means penetration of up to 25mm! This deeper penetration of near-infrared light is one reason why it’s utilized in therapeutic applications such as pain management, wound healing, muscle recovery, and skin rejuvenation!
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO IT AND HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?
The more often you use it the faster you’ll see results. It is meant to be used regularly! A full session is 30 minutes but it’s beneficial even if you just have 10-15 minutes!
